How to Play Rummy
Rummy is a classic card game where the objective is to be the first player to get rid of all your cards by
forming melds. This online version lets you play against AI opponents anytime, anywhere!
The Objective
Be the first player to dispose of all the cards in your hand. You do this by creating melds, which are
combinations of cards that follow specific rules.
Types of Melds
- Sets (Groups): Three or four cards of the same rank but different suits. For example: 7♥
7♦ 7♣
- Runs (Sequences): Three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. For example: 4â™ 5â™ 6â™
How to Play
Each player is dealt 10 cards (or 7 cards with 3-4 players). The remaining cards form the draw pile, and one
card is placed face-up to start the discard pile.
On your turn:
- Draw: Take either the top card from the draw pile OR the top card from the discard pile
- Meld (optional): Lay down any valid melds from your hand, or add cards to existing melds
- Discard: Place one card from your hand onto the discard pile to end your turn
Aces in Rummy
In this version of Rummy, Aces are always low. This means A-2-3 is a valid run, but Q-K-A is not. Sequences
cannot wrap around (K-A-2 is not allowed).
Winning the Game
The first player to play all their cards wins! If the draw pile runs out, the discard pile is shuffled and
becomes the new draw pile.
Tips for Beginners
- Pay attention to what cards your opponents pick up and discard
- Try to form runs when possible - they're more flexible than sets
- Don't hold onto high cards too long - they'll cost you points if someone else wins
- Watch the discard pile for cards that might complete your melds
